Peak 2 Peak: The Worlds Biggest Gondola

Whistler is spending ton amount of money on capital improvement. The Winter Olympic Games is been hosted by Canada for the third time and it will be held from February 12th to 18th, 2010 at Vancouver and some events such as the Alpine, Nordic and sliding events are held at Whistler. And the main attractions of Whistler are the giant two point seven miles gondolas which will cross from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain. The Peak 2 Peak gondolas are the brand new and eye-catchy gondolas system on which most of the money is spend. So it’s worth taking a ride on!

The distance between the two towers, these gondolas covers around one point eight-eight miles and about one thousand four hundred and twenty seven feet, its above ground. Thus, making it the longest as well as highest distance peak 2 peak gondolafrom ground level gondola in the whole world! Totally, there are four gondolas available and each gives three-sixty degree stunning views of the whistler valley. The views are just amazing and breathtaking that you will fall in love with the valley! For the people whose hearts are brave enough for more adventure and there are two gondolas with transparent floor. You will feel like you are floating in air and the views will be much different and beautiful.

Don’t worry about the safety of the gondolas! The gondola’s safety is designed keeping in mind the every little mishap that could take place. The gondolas were built to hold out against wind up to hundred kilometers per hour but it has withstood wind up to one hundred and twenty kilometer per hour, without decrease in speed or with its performance. Being at such a height, the towers are installed with radar detection system which scans the sky for any airplanes. So it would get information before hand if any airplane is close enough to collide. If any aircraft do come close to gondola then the system sends strong frequencies to warn the aircraft that it’s close enough to collide.

whistler vancouver snowboardingThe Discovery channel were so impressed by the project and use of high-tech that they started to documenting the whole making since 2007 and featured the story titled as “Peak 2 Peak: Building the Worlds Biggest Gondola” in December 2008. During summer, you can make most out of the gondolas. As the scenery around the Whistler Valley is mind blowing and mountain peaks covered in snow with greenery around, oh, it’s just amazing! During winter too the look is stunning from such a height but primarily it is used as a transportation medium.

The gondolas are something you can’t miss out in Whistlers. It sure has many things to offer. Skiers, snowboarders, or let it be a tourists, everyone will enjoy ride on these gondolas and the scenery will be mesmerizing!

    Wind blowing at the speed of 100 – 120 km/h and yet gandolas can withstand! I’m just imagining how strong its going to be.
