Sham and Indus Valley

Take a walk in the colourful bazaar in Leh and enjoy these surroundings very well. Visit the monasteries here in Shjey where the old summer palace of the Ladakh kings is there. There is a Gompa here which houses the 12m high Buddha which really looks amazing. Then there is the Thikse monastery that is perched on a hill that lies near the Indus. Ladakh has the Hemis Gompa which is the largest gompa here in this region.

Then the trek would take you to the Stok royal Palace the next day and also to the Tibetan Camp of Choglamsar and the Spituk Monastery. Come back and rest for the night.

The next morning you could go to the Phyang monastery and you would certainly enjoy the walk that you can have here. This is a short day trek and is really needed for us to get used to the entire region.

As the trail goes upwards steeply you would find yourself headed towards the TAru la pass which is incidentally the first pass of the trek. Then you would descend to the Nyemo village which is a great attraction.

The trekking route then takes you to Nyemo – Nie as it crosses the Basgo region, where you would find some of the most interesting fortresses. Here you would also find many sanctuaries and also a palace. You can halt here and take a look as long as you want.

Then go to the bare terrain of the Nie Likir region. Here you would get to see the Likir monastery which is the oldest of its kind in Ladakh.

The next day takes you to a place called Yangthang and you would cross two passes the Charatse La and the Phobe La as you walk along this road. The view of the landscape here is excellent and it is enigmatic that the whole of the region is filled with beautiful scenic sights.
