The open-air markets, donkey poo in the streets and the rare pile of trash are a part of the real life character of Lamu. The new buildings coming up here are of the traditional Swahili style and blend faultlessly with the older buildings. Unless you are hopelessly demanding, you'll just love Lamu! Thanks for the post! They easily beat the Hawaiian islands. They are simply the best! Here my husband and I had the time of our lives! We dived 50 feet deep into water and got some awesome pictures of manta rays! Did a lot of diving and snorkeling and saw many underwater coral gardens! It was Fabulous! Thanks for the post! :-) Bora Bora islands are incomparable! It has beautiful coral beds which have lots of wildlife in their own habitat! We saw five manta rays which was just beyond what I expected here! Our guide was an experienced snorkeler and diver and he had a lot of knowledge about the ecosystem of Bora Bora islands..What made the trip more amazing was that we didn't feel like we were doing some toouristy damaging the eco-system stuff, like snorkeling trips which had us feeding the fishes and sharks, which didn't have a great impact on the eco-system. We were just cruising on the beautiful waters of Bora Bora! Bora Bora is my favorite destination for vacation. It has beautiful coral beds which have lots of wildlife in their own habitat! If you are staying for a short duration then there are the usual activities to do on the island..After a few days of untiringly pursuing all water activities, I just spent my time relaxing and enjoying the lovely weather on the islands! It has got limited resources but it is all set in a very beautiful setting. Here many younger women wear bui bui to cover their faces as much as a fashion statement as a religious one. I guess its probably the only islamic town where English is the spoken language. Once you go to Lamu, living can be either high-end or really cheap. This place is a window into the world of the English speakers with an interest in Islam. Here there are no roads so no taxis, but donkeys are the main form of transport! There are practically no cars here and people travel on donkeys. I found it very odd that there's a Liverpool supporters' club. Lamu is a beautiful place and it is a World Heritage site, it just needs to be taken care of. The streets are narrow and cobble-stoned, the buildings are really ancient and intricate, the people are friendly and the history is really fascinating! My wife and my young son and I were staying at a beautiful hotel which was near a strand in Heringsdorf. We rented bicycles from the hotel and biked along the strand and were just taking in all the beauty of the place that we could! The weather was really cold. The place where we stayed was a few yards away from the beautiful beach. We really enjoyed the solitude and the peaceful atmosphere of this island and explored so many places here! This was one of the best experiences we've had in our entire German holiday!
