Journey Idea » Holidays Travel across the world with Journey Idea Mon, 15 Apr 2013 07:00:46 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Top 5 Cars for Driving Holidays Mon, 11 Mar 2013 05:10:14 +0000 Ricky To road trip or not to road trip, that is not the question Direct Car Excess is asking. The foremost decision in embarking upon that cross-country adventure is not the route to take, not the accommodations along the way, not even the national treasures that are a must-see. It is the wheels! No matter what stage of life someone is embracing, whether it is student, family, midlife crisis or those golden years, the how to get there is vital.

Keeping fundamental criteria in mind when choosing a vehicle, such as fuel economy, reliability, comfort, safety and road handling capacity is imperative to the success of the long road trip; however neglecting to consider the overall image of the vehicle with a nod to luxury and sportiness would be a flaw.

Toyota Prius

With that in mind, here is a list of five ideal companions for your next long journey. Amid fuel prices sitting at record highs, running an inefficient car on long journeys is no longer desirable to many. Hybrid cars have been making great strides to ensure the driving experience is satisfying and comfortable while ticking the economy and low carbon emissions boxes. A leader in this end of the industry is the Toyota Prius. Two engines, one petrol, one electric work in tandem to provide a smooth, almost silent travelling experience, while surrounding its passengers with all the latest technological comforts and advances.

Skoda Octavia

Along the same vein, cleaner conventional engine technology is paving the way for more luxurious cars to compete with smaller, lighter ones that in recent years have been favoured because of economic factors. A fashionable choice in this class is the diesel-engine Skoda Octavia. A reasonably priced car with improved fuel consumption and emission figures coupled with elegant lines and generous interior space makes this a solid choice.

Mercedes Benz GL Class

However, if ample comfort and cabin space is more important for the perfect road trip, the interior of the Mercedes-Benz GL class is elegant, exceptionally comfortable and practical. All quality materials are used and many extra features can be chosen for optimum personalisation. There is seating for seven which can be reconfigured in a variety of ways making this the perfect versatile carrier.

New Citroen C4 Grand Picasso

Not to be outdone in this category is the Grand C4 Picasso. Also containing seating for seven and a flexible seating design, it provides plenty of interior space, comfort and versatility for the larger groups heading out on the open road.

Jaguar F Type

No list would be complete without including decadence and the Jaguar F-Type is just the sports car to take anywhere. Alone or with that special someone, the feel of the wind, the stretch of the road and the feeling of invincibility will enhance this excursion like none other.

The road trip is an experience everyone should partake of, whether they are in the back of their parents Picasso, heading off to college in that Skoda, flying in the F-Type or visiting the grandkids in the Prius. Enjoy the voyage fellow travellers.

What Will My Kids Do On a Camping Trip? Thu, 27 Sep 2012 06:37:14 +0000 Ricky When you plan a holiday with the kids it can be a worrying time. Will they enjoy the food? Will they miss their friends? Will they have a good time?

Perhaps the biggest concern for most parents is over just what the young ones will do while they are away.  A lot of families now choose a camping holiday because of the rich variety of activities it offers their children. The following are some of the best ideas to keep them happy.

The Kid’s Club

A lot of the best camping sites now offer a fun kid’s club with plenty of activities. These are brilliant for parents who want their children to have fun while they go and do something else. It also makes it enjoyable for everyone to meet up again later on in the day and discuss what you have all been up to. You should check out the list of activities inprofessional websites such as Eurocamp or Keycamp, where you can see all of the facilities and things to do.

Kid’s club

Sports Fun

Another great thing about modern campsites is that they often offer a variety of sporting options. Football, swimming and tennis are the most common options but you might be lucky and have even more sports to choose from. Getting a family tournament going on can be fun provided that you are sure that everyone will take the games in the right spirit. It is also a good way to get some healthy exercise and sun at the same time.

Walking and Cycling

Another healthy option is to get a hire bike for the day or just put on some comfortable shoes and start walking. Even if your kids wouldn’t ever think about doing this at home they might be more relaxed about it while on holiday. A lot of the top camping sites across Europe are located right on fabulous walking and cycling trails. A good tip is to look into this before you go and find out how difficult the local trails are and the kind of attractions which they pass by.

Walking and cycling

One of the big benefits of going camping is that you can enjoy home cooking. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the person who makes the meals back home has to do it here as well. This can be an ideal time to get everyone involved in the meal making process, especially if you are making fun foods to take away on a picnic or a barbeque.

What would your ideal family holiday activities be?

Is It Time to Consider a Family Holiday Again? Wed, 13 Jun 2012 09:37:12 +0000 Ricky A lot of parents don’t even think about taking family holidays due to bad experiences they have had in the past.

Perhaps you got caught in horrendous Bank holiday traffic one year or ended up spending a fortnight in a Spanish building site a while ago. Even if this is the case the good news is that it is now easier than ever before to get a great trip away with the whole family. Here are some of the reasons for giving this issue a bit more thought than you have maybe being giving it.

Family Holiday

Ease of Booking

The internet has made our life easy in so many ways and the booking of holidays is definitely one of them. We can now skip through lots of offers and find out as much as we want to about the place. With a lot of destinations you can even take a virtual tour and see what awaits you there. This means that family holidays are no longer a step into the unknown like they used to be. Professional sites such as those from the Holidaybreak brand will give you all of the information needed to make the right decision, especially if you are considering self-catering holidays for your family.

The Right Age

If you all went away a few years and it was a bad experience then what could have changed now? Well, for a start the kids are now older and, presumably, more likely to get more out of the trip. If your children are now at an age in which you can trust them to go off and do things independently then this also means that it could be a great break for the parents. Even if they are younger you could consider going to a resort of campsite which offers supervised children’s activities for their young guests.

Family Holiday

Get Closer to Each Other

Work, school, hobbies and other factors can all add up to mean that we don’t actually spend as much time with our families as we would like to. Going away on a family holiday can be a fantastic way of getting close to one another by spending time together doing interesting things. Even if you all go your separate ways during the day you can still meet up in the evenings to eat and talk.

Exciting Options

The world is a smaller place than it has ever been, and that means there are many wonderful options for exploring new holiday destinations as well as the old classics. They say that travel broadens the mind and it is certainly a fine way to get your kid to see other things and start to think about the world differently. We can all benefit from a holiday now and then, and if we do it with the family then so much the better.
