Berlin has bagged its place in the list of “UNESCO’s City Of Design”. This city bubbles with innovation in the creative arts. In the earlier days Berlin was sometimes looked upon in horror, fascination or sympathy, but today the whole of Europe looks upon Berlin as a trendsetter.

Berlin, the capital of Germany is one of the most influential centers of the European Union. Berlin has been capital of different German nations: County of Brandenburg, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, German Democratic Republic (only the Eastern part), and also of today’s Germany. The name Berlin is derived from the Slavic syllable “Berl”, which means “swamp”.

Berlin is a city which is famous for history and culture. The immediate connection, when Berlin is mentioned is well-known World War II. You can witness the area where the Berlin Wall once stood. The Wall Victims Memorial is brandenburgdefinitely worth a look and is just as sad and prideful to Germans as one would find the Pearl Harbor, or the Viet Nam Memorial in the United States.

If you are a history buff and fascinated with the history of World War II, you can enjoy some bone chilling moments on a journey where Nazi meetings took place and see some of their bunkers. You can also visit the museums which cater to anyone fascinated with history, from the pro to the curious.

There is much more to Berlin then history. Berlin has been a mecca for architects, artists, rebels and creatives from across the globe. The Gate “Brandenburger Tor” is the most important symbol of Berlin.

The city crest of Berlin shows a black bear with red tongue on two feet which is supposed to be the allusion to the founder of the Mark Brandenburg. The bear has its official status as a symbol of Berlin.

This zoo is the biggest zoo in Germany with 14000 animals in 1500 different types. This zoo features the largest variety of animals seen in a single zoo worldwide.

There are various clubs like Kitkat for those who wish to have a glimpse of the social life of Germans. The Olympic Stadium of Berlin which was built for the Olympic Games in 1936 is definitely worth a watch

Cultural, culinary and sport events make Berlin a wonderful holiday destination. Berlin definitely impresses the tourist with a long and interesting history in the past as well as an impressive character at the present moment.
