Situated on the South-East part of the Bay of Bengal, it is home to India’s singular active volcano. Andamans offers a wide ranging experience right from its tumultuous past to its vast flora and fauna, the lush rainforests- a naturalist’s haunt, adventure sports along with a host of other options in the offing.

Located 29 kms from Port Blair is the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, where one can get up close to the unique coral forms and underwater marine life from glass bottom boats. The Marine Park spans a 281.5 sq.km area comprising of bays, wide open seas and 15 islands of varying sized islands.

Those who seek thrill from being close to nature can undertake the nature trail commencing at the highest point in south Andamans, the Mt. Harriet that was once the ex-summer seat during British rule. The nature trail ends in Madhuban, located north-east of South Andaman, has the most diverse forms of unusual birds, butterflies and animals. The views of elephants plodding and swimming about after a hard day’s work are truly a welcome sight.

The Cellular Jail situated at Port Blair, was the site where several 158434765juxihe_fsrevolutionaries were incarcerated for revolting against the British regime. Made up of miniature solitary captive areas called cells. There were originally seven wings that spread out from the central tower, now has just three left due to the damage caused by the Japanese. A focal point of lasting interest is the penal colony that is the museum dedicated to freedom fighters who served term in that place. The chronicle of the valiant freedom struggle comes to life in a soul-stirring Light and Sound Show, the Son-et-Lumiere within the jail complex.

Diglipur located in Northern Andamans has the tallest point here, the trekkable Saddle Peak. The sole river of the Andamans, the Kalpong flows through Diglipur. One can avail every possible aqua sport option at the Water Sports Centre. Ramnagar beach can be reached from Kalighat that has a renowned turtle procreation site.

The dense mangrove setup, jade forests and not to be missed, the Sylvan Sands and picnic perfect locales of Munda pahar beaches. Collinpur, located 36 kms from Port Blair close to Tirur has a splendid low-lying beach.
